Storing Your Memories on the Site

Before you can add anything to the site you need to register. Registration is simple:

The main page has a option on the top menu for registration. Clicking this displays the registration page:

Just select a username, fill it in the box provided, and add your email address. You will receive an email asking you to ‘Change’ your password. Once you have done that you are ready to go!

You can now go back to the main page select it from the top menu and Log In.

After you login, the main page will change slightly:

Not only has the top menu changed, but a new Black Border Menu has been added.

From the Black Border Menu select New-Post. This will bring up the Post Editing page.

This looks a little daunting at first, but it is not that bad once you know how to use it. I’ll discuss the bottom and side panels as we go along, but you can pretty much ignore the bottom panel for now.

The Big Black box on the form is where you design your post. When the post page is first opened a cursor will be blinking at the top centre of the Post.

Before you do anything else you need to give your post a Title. Where the cursor is blinking, just type your Title, and press enter on your keyboard.

The box is now in entry mode. It is pretty much what you see is what you get. You can type directly into the box. A help block appears over the text in case you want to special it’s presentation. It will also use any online spelling checker you may have.

If you want to do anything a little different (like adding a photo gallery) you need to add that manually.

If you are only going to display photos on the form then you need to add a block to hold it. You need to click the ‘+’ icon to bring up the option blocks. The blocks that are used to hold pictures are a little way down the list of blocks under Media:

Use an Image block for a single photo, or a gallery block for a number of photos.

And add your photos.

You can add a caption to any image block or gallery, but you should at least add some text to the page to describe what you are posting about. This will be displayed on the main page for people to recognise what you have on your post.

Now we need to look at the right hand block. It has two tabs. Select Document.

The top part of the block can be left as is.

Cursor down to ‘Categories’

First check that your category has not been entered by typing it into the Search Category box. If it does not exist then you can create a new category using the Add Category link. You can then enter your category name, and link it to an existing category. Please link it to an existing category, failure to do this may delay delay your post being published.

Now you need to add your tags. Cursor down to Tags.

If you start entering a tag word, then the site will suggest a tag for you. If you complete your tag word before it is found, then pressing enter will add it to the tag list, and associate it with your Post. Failing to allocate your post to a category may delay it being published.

Under the Tags section is Featured Image. This is where you select which photo will be displayed on the main page, along the text you entered earlier.

Select an image from the Media Library, or enter a new one.

When you have selected your image, then you can publish it.

We have to check that the Post is valid, and not from a criminal! So, initially you cannot publish your post directly, you will need to submit it for review, and we will make the final publication.
